Days 20 & 21 – Leon to San Martin & San Martin to Astorga

Days 20 and 21 are in the books. Leon was great. I had a reunion with some friends that I had not seen for a while. That is the way it works on the Camino. You meet people and form relationships. Then you lose track of them. Then, out of the blue, you meet up again! It is a celebration!

Day 20 took me from Leon to St. Martin del Camino, about 16 miles. This is the 8th day being on the Meseta. One more to go and then I will hit a more mountainous area. As a reminder, the Meseta is an are on the Camino where it is flat, farmland and little changing. For the most part, it is not difficult but there is no shade. It is very important, as always, to hydrate and eat on a regular basis. I pass 300 miles on day 20!

Day 21 took me from St. Martin to Astorga, again about 16 miles. This is the last day in the Meseta. On the way, I walked through one of my favorite towns on the Camino, Hospital de Orbigo. It is an old town where they still have “jousting” contests! Unfortunately, I missed it by ONE DAY!

I cannot say enough about the weather. I am sure we will have rain at some point. So far, we have had three “rain events.” One lasted for 3 minutes, while the other two came after we had finished for the day. God is great!!
