Days 26 and 27 are in the books. Only 5 days left of walking.
Day 26 brought me the first real rain event. It thunder stormed all morning. Full rain gear most of the day, and that wasn’t enough to prevent getting pretty soaked. Because of the rain, the day went pretty slow even though the distance was not that long. I walked from O Cebreiro to Tricastella, which is only about 13 miles. Almost every cafe I came across, I (and everyone else) would stop to get out of the rain and dry off a bit. It was pretty miserable. Several people got lost because your head is down to avoid the rain and you could miss a marker. It did not happen to me, but several of my friends had to double back at times because they realized they were off the path. Not a good feeling!! It cleared up around noon and became a pretty nice day. Just before reaching Tricastella, I passed the 400 miles point. That puts me under a 100 miles to Santiago. In Tricastella, one of my pilgrim friends, Christian (Italian), cooked a wonderful dinner for about 10 of us. It was unbelievable!
Day 27 was much less eventful. I walked from Tricastella to Sarria, a short 11 miles. From here to Santiago, it will be very crowded. Starting in Sarria is the shortest distance you can walk and still get the certificate at the end. Many of the tour companies start their tours here. It was cool, cloudy and windy most of the day. In Galicia, one of the delicacies is octopus. I tried it when I walked in 2018 and it was not to my liking. My granddaughter, Ava, would love it.
